Wire speed range: 0–40 m/s – adapts to different stone characteristics

 

Wire speed is a key parameter affecting cutting efficiency, bead life and energy consumption. The SKYSTONE Quarry Wire Saw Machine allows continuous wire speed adjustment from 0 to 40 m/s, enabling users to set the speed according to the actual stone hardness, abrasiveness and other conditions.

 

Lower wire speed:suitable for hard, highly abrasive stone

At lower wire speeds, the single‑grit cutting depth of diamond beads increases, the diamond protrusion becomes more effective, and the cutting ability is maintained. At the same time, premature diamond wear caused by excessive speed is avoided, thus extending the service life of the wire.

 

Higher wire speed:suitable for medium‑hard or soft stone

Increasing wire speed raises the number of cuts per unit time and improves cutting efficiency. However, excessive speed may cause “polishing” of the bead surface or wire jumping. Therefore, the automatic control system of this equipment keeps the wire speed stable within the set range, avoiding the negative effects of overspeed.

 

Zero-speed start and soft cut-in

The equipment supports smooth start‑up from zero speed. When the wire first contacts the stone, a lower wire speed can be used for soft cut‑in. After the beads start to cut stably, the speed is gradually increased to the target value, reducing initial impact and the risk of polishing.

 

Synergy between wire speed and automatic control

 

Wire speed is not an independent parameter – it interacts with wire tension and main motor current. This equipment adopts PLC and inverter bi‑directional closed‑loop control:

 

  • The operator sets the target wire speed, maximum allowed tension and cutting current via the touch screen. The system then automatically adjusts the feed speed and motor rotation speed, keeping the wire speed close to the set value.

  • When a sudden change in stone hardness causes the current to rise, the system appropriately reduces the feed speed to stabilise the wire speed, preventing overload or jamming of the wire. Conversely, when the load decreases, the feed speed is automatically increased.

 

This control method reduces the need for frequent manual wire speed adjustments and makes the cutting process more stable.
